Is the shape of my parakeet's cage important?A rectangular parakeet cage is the best shape.
Avoid round parakeet cages because a parakeet needs a flat wall behind them, to feel safe.
A round parakeet cage offers no safe place.
Also avoid parakeet cages with alot of decorative flourishes such as those shaped like a house or palace.
These actually offer your parakeet alot less room to fly around and play than a rectangular cage and when they perch on the outer rounded edges, their poops do not stay within the cage but fall onto the table outside the cage.
Also, a parakeet can get their foot or toenail stuck in the decorative bits and get hurt.
The width of the cage is more important than the height as parakeets fly horizontally, not vertically like helicopters.
